PM Laptop Scheme 2026: 5 lakh free Chromebooks for top students
On 25 October 2026 the Prime Minister launched the Youth Chromebook Scheme in Islamabad. Radio Pakistan reported that 5 lakh (500,000) Chromebooks, each with a high-speed internet device, will be given to high-achieving students of public schools and madrassas on merit within two years. Applications go through the IBCC portal, which checks your record against the list of top Class 9 students your board sends. In Punjab, students of all nine boards from Lahore to D.G. Khan can apply, but only if they study at a government school and their board has listed them. Our guide walks through the portal screen by screen, lists the four documents and explains what to do if your record is not found.

How Punjab government schemes work in 2026
Most help for families in Punjab now comes through online portals. The Punjab Government runs programs such as the CM Punjab Laptop Program, the Honhaar Scholarship, Apni Chhat Apna Ghar, Asaan Karobar Finance and the Green Tractor scheme, mostly built by the Punjab Information Technology Board. The federal government runs its own programs that Punjab residents can also join, such as the PM Laptop Scheme for Chromebooks and the PM Fuel Relief (9771) for motorcyclists. Each program has its own rules, its own portal and its own window, and windows often open for only a few weeks. That is why the same scheme can be “open” in one report and “closed” in another.
Three things decide most applications. First, your record: portals check what your board, university or the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry already holds about you, so your name, CNIC and marks must match those records exactly. Second, the window: apply only while the official portal says it is open. Third, the channel: apply only on the official website or helpline, never through an agent. No scheme on this site charges money to be selected. When a scheme asks for a fee, such as Asaan Karobar Finance, the portal itself generates the payment slip.
